King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella

Released: 1988

This game had little new to offer in itself, but it is the first game Sierra made using it's system SCI. However, for those whose computers weren't powerful enough to run SCI, they made this game also using the old AGI system. This game is the only one Sierra ever made simultaneously with SCI and AGI. So, the two versions are remarkably similar. (King's Quest 1 was remade with SCI years after the original's release, but it is a completely different game from its AGI counterpart).

Plot: King Graham has suddenly fallen ill. And quite possibly, the only thing that can save him is a magic fruit in a faraway land which only blooms but once every hundred years. As Rosella, the King's daughter, you are wisked away to this faraway land by a faery by the name of Genesta, in order to find this fruit. But Genesta is unable to help you further or send you back. Genesta herself has fallen ill, because her talisman has been stolen by the evil Lolette. Now, you must stop Lolette, get back the talisman, and get the fruit. Will you do it, and in time before both Lolette and King Graham die? Let's hope so.

Availability: The SCI version of this game can be purchased in either the King's Quest series CD-ROM collection or the Roberta Williams Anthology. The AGI version of this title was never actually released to retail outlets. It was only available through Sierra itself by buying the regular SCI version and then mailing off for this AGI version. And Sierra only did this for a limited time. Consequently, this version is very rare. The only possiblity of getting a copy now would be by pirating it. Try the Abandonware webring. I don't condone pirating, but if Sierra doesn't want pirating, they should make it available.
