King's Quest III: To Heir is Human

Medusa approaches in the desert.   Gwydian in the local downtown.

Released: 1986

With the success of the first two games, of course, a third game was not to far off the horizon. Fortunately, this game offered a completely new and fresh look at the series, adding magic spells, as well as a timed cycle. When you first play this game, you may wonder why this is a King's Quest game. It seems completely disjointed from its predesessor. What happened to King Graham? What happened to Daventry? I found this to be clever.

Plot: You are Gwydian, slaveboy to the evil wizard Manaman. Under his care, you are forced to do his bidding, endure his tortures, and most importantly, stay out of his affairs. But, as you approach your 18th birthday, you realize its time to change situations, or your life could come to a quick stop. Now, you must roam the lands, thwart the wizard, free yourself from the wizard, and figure how what the hell this story has to do with the King's Quest saga.

Availability: This game should currently be available in both the King's Quest Series CD-ROM collection as well as the Roberta Williams anthology.
