King's Quest
(later retitled King's Quest I: Quest for the Crown)

Sir Graham meets the old Gnome.   What lurks in the depths of the land of Daventry?

Released: 1984

Released in 1984, this was Sierra's first AGI game. It was a breakthrough in computer gaming, with its smooth graphical animation (no flickering), its 16 color repertoire, and simulation of 3-D graphics. I'd venture to say that no game since has made such a radical jump in technology from its predessors than this game.

Plot: You are Sir Graham of the Kingdom of Daventry. The King is dying, without a wife or heir, and the Kingdom is falling into chaos. The three treasures that once made Daventry great are now missing. As a last effort to save the Kingdom, the King brings Sir Graham forward to go on a quest for these three great treasures, a magic mirror which fortells the future, a sheild which can protect against any foe, and a bottomless chest full of gold. If you succeed, you will become the new King. If not, the Kingdom could fall under chaos forever.

Availability: This game should currently be available in both the King's Quest Series CD-ROM collection as well as the Roberta Williams anthology.
