Goldrush

Jerrod in the city of Brooklyn.   Jerrod at a stable in Sacramento.

Released: 1989

This is Sierra's second to last AGI game, and it is perhaps the most advanced, not biggest, but most advanced. It boasts of having three seperate paths that the player can take to get from Brooklyn to Sacramento. It contains many technological (or least innovative) advances not seen previously.

Plot: You are Jerrod, a citizen of Brooklyn, living in a time just before the gold rush has been announced. From a letter by your brother in Sacramento, you know that it is time for you to head west. Find your way to Sacramento, taking one of three routes. Take the carriage land route. Take the Panama route. Or take the sail around Cape Horn. Once in Sacramento, the quest doesn't end there. You must find your brother, and you must find gold. This historically accurante game will find you at the edge of yourself wanting more, and having you play it again and again, in order to see all the possible routes.

Availability: Unfortunately, this title is not available at retail and it hasn't been since the early 1990's. It's possible you may find it in a bargain bin at a software store, but I doubt it. I haven't seen one for a long time. Your best bet is the Abandonware Webring. I don't condone pirated games, but if Sierra doesn't want us to pirate games, they should make them available.
